Juliane Maxwald earned her Master of Arts in Psychoanalysis from the New York Graduate School of Psychoanalysis (formerly the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis - New York) in 2006 and is currently working towards her license in psychoanalysis. She has a particular interest in the integration of psychoanalytic principles with other therapeutic interventions. She is employed as an addictions therapist and is a NY state credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor.
“My education and training in psychoanalysis helps me conceptualize my clinical work in addiction treatment through a different lens. Addiction treatment focuses on stopping self-destructive behaviors; however without an understanding of motivation, often unconscious, treatment can become stuck. What better means to understand and uncover motivation and resistance than psychoanalysis?”
