Juliane Maxwald

Juliane Maxwald earned her Master of Arts in Psychoanalysis (renamed Master of Arts in Psychoanalytic Studies, October 2020) from the New York Graduate School of Psychoanalysis (formerly the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis – New York) in 2006 and is currently working towards her license in psychoanalysis.  She has a particular interest in the integration of psychoanalytic principles with other therapeutic interventions.  She is employed as an addictions therapist and is a NY state credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor.

“My education and training in psychoanalysis helps me conceptualize my clinical work in addiction treatment through a different lens.  Addiction treatment focuses on stopping self-destructive behaviors; however without an understanding of motivation, often unconscious, treatment can become stuck.  What better means to understand and uncover motivation and resistance than psychoanalysis?”
